Victoria Adamson
Founder of Apanaveda School of Yoga
Victoria qualified as a Sivananda yoga teacher in 1997 at the Dhanwanthari Ashram in Southern India. After gaining a Distinction in yoga teacher-training, Victoria has taught yoga full-time in London, Essex, Suffolk and Hertfordshire.
After further study of Scaravelli and Purna yoga and having attended Advanced level training, Victoria has combined all these disciplines to create a style of yoga that is both intense and holistic, encompassing all the traditions of Raja and Hatha yoga.
Victoria has a Diploma and Post Grad in Pranayama under the discipline of Swami Gitananda taught by Philip Xerri.
Victoria has worked with many sportsmen including the Essex cricket team and professional golfers. She has also worked as a yoga therapist in a rehabilitation clinic.
Since 2011, Victoria has specialised in teaching Pranayama, the breath work, for those who suffer with stress-related symptoms such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and lethargy. Pranayama has incredible and life-changing effects on the nervous system for both psychological and physiological healing.
Victoria has many doctors’ referrals for patients who need to learn how to breathe properly, through increased lung-capacity, rhythm breathing, breath-retention and Buteyko technique, balancing oxygen and carbon dioxide levels, specialised breathing for different ailments, switching on the parasympathetic nervous system and classical Pranayama for general well-being.
Having studied in-depth anatomy and biomechanics, Victoria has referrals from physiotherapists and chiropractors to work with patients on a physical level to restore and maintain natural movement and alignment. Yoga Asana and fluid movement opens and strengthens joints. It balances the bio-tensegrity of the body and stimulates the fascial network.
Meditation is a fundamental part of yoga practice and Victoria guides Yoga Nidra and Visualisation Meditations in class and online to small groups and privately. Mindfulness meditation increases awareness and reduces the incessant thoughts that can overwhelm the mind. Meditation helps to create a calm and centred mind which can help reduce fear, anxiety and mental fatigue.
Private therapy in breathing, yoga postures and meditation is booked with an assessment on the first session with personal programmes set for individual needs.
Victoria’s teaching will guide you towards a complete anatomical understanding of each posture and a deeper spiritual awareness of yoga practice. The combination of improved breath control and guided meditation will contribute to an increased sense of internal and external well-being
